29 | ๐ŸŒ… Curate your LIFE

Happy Tuesday,

A few weeks ago I wrote about curating our content feeds.

Or, more importantly, remembering that we can change what we see.

This applies to editing the accounts we follow, the emails that come into our inbox.

But, curating what we experience doesn't need to be limited to behind a screen.

I recently finished reading Anything You Want by Derek Sivers, who finishes the short book with the following quote:

Pay close attention to what excites you and what drains you.

๐Ÿ“‹ Curate your life

It's a simple enough concept.

But, like an Instagram feed, or a busy inbox, we forget to be conscious of what we're experiencing.

Most of the time, we let life happen to us.

What excites you? What gives you energy to get up and go?

For me, it's learning about new things, travelling to new places, playing 5 aside with my mates.

What drains you?

Again, a simple question, but not something we often stop and think to do.

I'm drained by clothes shopping, emails, and too many hangovers.

Having written that out, I now realise what I can try and work on.

Clothes shopping - easily avoidable. Where I fall down is by buying low quality, trend clothing that doesn't last.

So the goal is to have a wardrobe where everything is good quality, fits well and where everything matches.

I believe this is called a capsule wardrobe - buy once, no need to buy again, because everything is timeless. But that's an email for another day.

Emails - now I work on a second client, my work inbox has got out of control. Luckily, I've got a blog post all about how to fix this!

Too many hangovers - part of my ongoing conundrum of reducing how many times I am drinking, whilst still maintaining my social life.

Not sure on the answer to this one, but I know it's something to work on.

Simple exercise, great result

So - now I know what to focus more on, and what to avoid and reduce.

It's a simple exercise, but very effective.

I will remind myself to have these two questions in my head as much as I can.

What do I get the most out of? What should I do more?

What drains me? Can I avoid it?

I think that will be an effective method to reach a happier, more fulfilling life.

Until next week!

Thanks! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

This Weekโ€™s Recommendation ๐Ÿ”

Film ๐ŸŽž - Dune (2021) - Go and watch this film as soon as you can, and watch it in IMAX. It's absolutely mesmeric - I can't wait for the next one when it eventually releases.

App ๐Ÿ“ฑ - Run Pee - Said film has a 2h 35m run time, which is fairly long. Run Pee is a brilliant and sort of hilarious app where users list the best times where you can run for a pee! What a great idea!

This Week Iโ€™m: โฌ‡๏ธ

  • Reading ๐Ÿ“š - No change from last week. Under the Whispering Door - T.J. Klune. Also listening to A Promised Land, written and read by Barack Obama (TBH I'm not sure this audiobook is for me but let's see)

  • Listening to ๐ŸŽง - A friend sent me this album over the weekend - amazing. ANTH01 - Jacques Greene.

  • Visiting ๐Ÿš™ - Manchester in December ๐Ÿ˜„

  • Planning ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป - Still planning our Bristol trip so any other recommendations welcome!

  • Looking forward to ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ - Getting back into running this week

This Weekโ€™s Quote ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Greatness isnโ€™t one decision. Great is just good repeated, over and over again. โ€” Steven Bartlett

Question ๐Ÿ“บ

What would the hard things look like in your life if they were made easy?

There we have it!

Looking forward to catching up next week.

In the meantime, find me on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, and have a look at what Iโ€™m reading on Goodreads. Ciao!
